The Black Forest Cake Mini Dessert Cups are dashing with layers of chocolate cake crumble, whipped cream and cherries. It's a simple and beautiful small version of our favorite classic cake in DLux mini dessert cups.

ingredients:

  • 1 lb chocolate cake
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate shavings
  • 1 cup cherries with stems

How to cook Black Forest Cake Mini Dessert Cups

  1. Crumble chocolate cake and set aside.
  2. Whip heavy cream and powdered sugar until it forms firm peaks. 
  3. Fill about 1/2 inch of the mini cups with chocolate cake crumbles. Next, pipe whipped cream about 1/2 inch. Then add 1 tsp of cherry pie filling.
  4. Repeat layers. You will end up of 2 layers of each ingredient.
  5. Top with whipped cream and garnish with cherry and chocolate shavings.
  6. Chill for at least 2 hours and serve.

You can use any type of chocolate cake scraps but our team prefers the darkest and decadent type. Dutch-processed cocoa powder is our main ingredient to achieve this. It's called black after all. Keep chocolate moist by brushing it with simple syrup and let it sit for a few minutes before crumbling.

We use a simple combination of heavy cream and powdered sugar whipped into firm perfection. Always use cold cream as this is easier and faster to whip. The addition of powdered sugar adds a just moderate sweetness that compliments the chocolate cake crumbles.

  • I really like this recipe! It was delicious and I definitely would make again. But, I have a small note. If you included the directions on making the whipped cream like the speed of the mixer and the amount of time mixing it, it would be easier to follow. Awesome though!
